WATCHMEN: Warner Bros. Planning an R-Rated Animated Adaptation

Watchmen Comic Book

Watchmen May Become an R-Rated Animated Film

Watchmen has already been adapted for the big screen by Zack Snyder, but it seems like Warner Bros. is looking to continue bringing the beloved comic book series to other mediums, with this one being more of a R-rated animated film.

A survey from Warner Bros. was found by Comic Book Resources revealed that the studio is asking fans for opinions on some new and upcoming film and TV projects. However, one item came as a surprise, showing that Watchmen is ‘an upcoming made for video movie’ which may be coming sooner than expect as it may be in development or completed already. This version is shown to be ‘A faithful adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel executed in an animation style that mirrors the source material.’

The thing is, we did get a faithful adaptation of the graphic novel in 2008 with Zack Snyder’s live-action film Watchmen. That was a little over a decade ago and the characters has since been playing a big role in the DC Comics Universe after the events of Rebirth, so we can understand that Warner Bros. is hoping to take advantage of it’s resurgence. The film may even end up just like Batman: The Killing Joke in style and possibly add some material from Before Watchmen. It doesn’t appear that Alan Moore or Dave Gibbons will be involved, but that could change in time.

While it’s a question of whether another adaptation is necessary, we can’t help but think that this may actually be good and could leave the door open for more Watchmen stories to be told. It would be hard to top Snyder’s version, but it has peaked our interest hearing about this. What you think?
