Wet Hot American Summer – First Day of Camp Trailer. Michael Showalter and David Wain‘s Wet Hot American Summer – First Day of Camp movie trailer stars Ken Marino, Paul Rudd, Janeane Garofalo, and Christopher Meloni. Wet Hot American Summer – First Day of Camp‘s plot synopsis: “Follow the counselors and campers on their first day at Camp Firewood in the summer of 1981.”

I need to see absolutely nothing beyond the first minute of this trailer to have full confidence in this project working out as the creators intended. It seems in full swing, that classic David Wain cynicism and warmth fused together, somehow making the premise of 40yr olds playing their younger selves since this is a prequel work, and getting us laughing by the third or fourth joke. Paul Rudd is glorious in this, his entry could not possibly be better.

I’m hoping this knocks it out of the park and becomes not just a mediocre sequel to a great comedy (see Anchorman, Dumb and Dumber, possibly Zoolander). This has the potential to be a glorious comedy, and I hope it gets there. We’ll see soon enough!

Netflix also released a poster for the film, which is a nostalgic throwback to the hand-drawn one-sheet of the original. I really enjoy posters of that kind, and think it does a good job of selling this as a goofy, enjoyable time.
