THE WITCH (2015) Movie Poster 3: The Woods Are Lovely, Dark & Deep

The Witch

The Witch Movie Poster 3 Released. It is almost the new year. This means resolutions, flying back home, getting back to work, etc. Yes, all those things may happen, but what is most important is that we may be getting the scariest film in years – according to all the praise and film festival screenings this year – fed to us in two short months. And judging from the trailers and the previous movie posters and the general aesthetic – I couldn’t be happier. This is my kind of horror film.

The new poster is…well, fairly mediocre, I’d say. It’s a step above the usual lazy poster job, for sure, but this one doesn’t really convey the ominous, eerie, darkness that the previous two did (check those out here and here). All in all though, it still gets me excited for that beautiful, moonlit forest horror. I can’t wait to hear leaves crunch in the darkness, etc. In that sense – it works. It reminds me that I’m excited to see The Witch.

What do you think of the new poster?

According to Birth.Movies.Death, “That’s a reasonably evocative image, I guess, but – with all due respect to The Witch, A24, and whoever put this one-sheet together – Mondo artist Daniel Danger really should’ve been hired to create this film’s poster. Dude’s a New England native who specializes in creepy atmospherics, run-down old houses, and skeletal tree branches. As a lover of both The Witch and badass movie poster art, it’s unthinkable to me that this pairing didn’t happen. Maybe they can put together one final final poster?

Anyway, The Witch arrives on February 26th, at which point it will become the best horror movie you’ve seen in a long time. If you’re not hyped already, get started.”

The Witch‘s plot synopsis: “A family in 1630s New England is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession.”

Directed by Robert EggersThe Witch stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie and Julian Richings.
