J.A. Bayona is Director of World War Z 2. Juan Antonio Bayona will be directing the sequel to World War Z instead of the first film’s director Marc Forster. There is no word on why Marc Forester is not directing World War Z 2 but Juan Antonio Bayona is a good choice for the film when you consider his past film The Orphanage.

The sequel to World War Z will probably sample Max Brooks‘ novel of the same name the same way the original film did.

On J.A. Bayona selection as director and the people overseeing World War Z 2‘s construction:

Juan Antonio Bayona was “was on the very short shortlist of directors a few weeks ago. He met with Pitt, who produced the movie via his Plan B banner and is also producing the sequel, before getting the gig. No writers are attached at this stage, but Bayona will oversee the writing process.”

Marc Forster‘s World War Z starred Brad PittEric WestMatthew FoxDavid Morse, James Badge Dale, Mireille EnosDavid AndrewsMichiel HuismanJulian SeagerElyes GabelJulia Levy-BoekenIván KamarásTrevor WhiteSarah Sharman, and Lee Nicholas Harris.

World War Z‘s plot synopsis: “The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”
