WRECK-IT RALPH 2 (2018): Sequel Officially in Development

Wreck-It Ralph

Disney‘s Wreck-It Ralph 2 officially announced. Disney has been hinting at a sequel to 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph, and yesterday they finally confirmed that the sequel is, in fact, in development for a release in 2018.

Wreck-It Ralph, which starred John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Sarah Silverman, and Jane Lynch, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2013. The film introduced us to Wreck-It Ralph, a video game villain who’s tired of being the bad guy. Ralph embarks upon a quest to prove himself as a hero, endangering the whole arcade in the process.

Reilly, who voices the titular hero/villain, says that this time around Ralph will venture into the world of the internet. Although little else is publicly known about the sequel as the story is still in development, it’s very likely that we’ll get a few more story updates as the process continues; Reilly is also the one who unofficially announced the news of the film’s sequel earlier this year, which makes us think he’s pretty bad at keeping secrets.

Rich Moore and Phil Johnston co-wrote the original, and they worked together on this year’s Zootopia (2016) as well, which saw some serious critical and box office success. Moore and Johnston will reunite for Wreck-It Ralph 2, which also has commitments from Sarah Silverman and John C. Reilly.

It looks like 2018 will be a huge year for Disney sequels; other planned releases include Toy Story 4How to Train Your Dragon 3Jurassic World 2, Hotel Transylvania 3, and Mary Poppins Returns.
