YOU’RE NEXT (2012): Lionsgate Acquires Horror Film Distribution Rights

You're Next 2012, Lionsgate

You’re Next has been acquired by Lionsgate for distribution in the United States. Adam Wingard‘s You’re Next (2012) stars Sharni Vinson, Amy Seimetz, AJ Bowen, Barbara Crampton, and Rob Moran. You’re Next‘s plot synopsis: “a home invasion flick described as a family reunion spiral[ing] into a night of terror when mysterious assailants wearing animal masks lay siege against the clan.”

Lionsgate acquired You’re Next and CAA has acquired “Adam Wingard, who directed the film, and Simon Barrett, who wrote and produced” the horror film. “The two were TIFF vets thanks to their previous film A Horrible Way to Die, and Barrett’s script for the 2004 film Dead Birds.” Supposedly You’re Next “was in a big bidding war all the way from its first screening until now when they finally closed it. “This project represents everything that we look for in a horror film.”

You’re Next has shades of The Strangers to me. Lionsgate plans to release You’re Next in the fall of 2012.

Some say they’re hoping for it to be the break out Insidious-hit of next year. I think it’s a smart pick-up for Lionsgate, they know horror and know how to release it, I think this should do well for them. Maybe they’ll even start a franchise out if it? “It is a celebration of its genre, featuring top-notch performances from a sophisticated script, brilliantly directed, that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats when they’re not jumping out of them,” says Acquisitions President Jason Constantine.
