ZOOLANDER 2: Ben Stiller Sequel Will Feature Familiar Characters

Ben Stiller Zoolander

Zoolander Sequel will Feature Familiar Characters. It’s been a long time since Derek Zoolander, played by Ben Stiller, cat-walked onto our screens. In fact it’s been exactly 13 years. The movie did reasonably well in the box office, but it has since gained a cult following. That is why it shouldn’t surprise anyone that talks of a sequel have been gaining steam.

Though, recently, Will Ferrell, who played villain/fashion designer Mugatu in the first movie, let slip some useful information about the sequel, saying, “We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it,”.

The story of the sequel is still clouded in mystery but it will likely include both Stiller and Owen Wilson, competing alongside younger models. The film is to be directed by Justin Theroux. The project has been on the back burner for some time now, with some false starts attributing to its delayed filming.

Ben Stiller has claimed the time delay was due to them wanting to get the movie just right, saying, “There’s a script we like, but I don’t want to force it, because people who love that movie really love it, so I want to make sure we do the sequel the right way,” he said. “Mike Myers did it well with the Austin Powers movies — they were all funny, and very ‘of their time’. And Zoolander is ‘of its time’, too, so it’s about how we could bring it up to date, to the present day.”

Jonah Hill and supermodel Cara Delevingne have been linked to the project, though no official word of their involvement has been made.

Zoolander was released in 2001 with a modest budget of 28 million dollars, the movie made an estimated 60 million in the box office during its original run.

More on the original Zoolander:

Zoolander is a 2001 American comedy film directed by and starring Ben Stiller. The film contains elements from a pair of short films directed by Russell Bates and written by Drake Sather and Stiller for the VH1 Fashion Awards television specials in 1996 and 1997. The short films and the film itself feature a dimwitted male model named Derek Zoolander (a play on the names of Dutch model Mark Vanderloo and American model Johnny Zander), played by Stiller. The film involves Zoolander becoming a pawn in a plot to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia by corrupt fashion executives.

The potential sequel does not have a release date yet and the overall casting information is likely going to change as more information becomes available.
