Box Office: January 27-29, 2017

Split was Number One at the box office over the weekend for the second week in row with $26.6 Million so far. Things have changed somewhat at movie theaters. People obviously would rather see something original than a mindless sequel or a reboot. If they didn’t, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, with all of its CGI bells and whistles, would have premiered in the Number One spot this weekend. A Dog’s Purpose premiered in Second Place this weekend with $18.3 Million. Hidden Figures was Third for the second week in a row with $14 Million for $104 Million so far. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter premiered in Fourth Place with $13.8 Million. La La Land was Fifth for the second week in a row with $12 Million for $106.5 Million so far. xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, Sing, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Monster Trucks, and Gold rounded out the top ten respectively.

A Dog’s Purpose is a 2017 American comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallström and written by W. Bruce Cameron, Cathryn Michon, Audrey Wells, Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky, based on the 2010 novel of the same name by Cameron. The film stars Britt Robertson, K. J. Apa, Juliet Rylance, John Ortiz, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Peggy Lipton, Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is a 2016 science fiction action horror film written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. It is the sequel to Resident Evil: Retribution and the sixth and final installment in the Resident Evil film series, which is loosely based on the Capcom survival horror video game series Resident Evil. The film stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, William Levy and Iain Glen.

Next week sees the release of Rings, The Space Between Us, and I Am Not Your Negro.
