Patrick Warburton joins cast of A Series of Unfortunate Events. The Rules of Engagement and The Tick veteran will play the elusive Lemony Snicket on Netflix‘s upcoming original series.
The character will be one of several new TV roles for Warburton. Not only ready to appear on streaming services, the actor will be playing the male lead in NBC‘s Crowded, which premieres on March 15th. It was believed at one point that he would reprise his role as The Tick on Amazon‘s revival of the series, but the company’s continued search for someone to play the character suggests it is unlikely he will do so.
Warburton is not the only actor confirmed to appear in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Joining him is How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, who will play the villainous Count Olaf. Additionally, Daniel Handler, who wrote the books upon which the show is based and upon whom Warburton’s character is loosely based, will serve as executive producer:
Picked up straight-to-series, A Series of Unfortunate Events tells the tale of orphaned children Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes) and Sunny Baudelaire, who find themselves in the villainous clutches of an evil uncle named Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) who has designs on their family fortune.
Warburton will take on the role of Lemony Snicket, the harried and troubled writer-photographer who is falsely accused of felonies and is continuously hunted by police and his enemies — including the fire-starting side of secret organization Volunteer Fire Department (VFD). Jude Law voiced the role of Lemony Snicket in the 2004 feature film.
