Joss Whedon Reveals What Happened To Ghost Rider In Agents Of Shield
Agents of SHIELD executive producer Joss Whedon explains what became of Ghost Rider on the ABC superhero show.
The last time we saw Robbie Reyes was when he prepared to face off against his uncle Eli Morrow and become the demonic motorcycle driver we all know and love when both characters suddenly disappeared. According to Whedon, Ghost Rider is “trapped in another place” and thus likely “not dead”, meaning the character could return at some point in the future:
Executive producer Jeffrey Bell also weighed in on why they decided to end the show’s Ghost Rider story arc in the mid-season finale, saying, “[Ghost Rider is] a lot for 22 [episodes], especially with everything else that we like and care about on the show… It would feel like one flavor over a long period of time, but we’ve certainly left it open.” They added that “financial considerations” also impacted their decision to wrap Ghost Rider’s story by the fall finale.
Considering the upcoming “LMD” storyline, the show’s producers are glad to seize the opportunity to tell a new story in the back-half of Season 4. “We do think you’ll come into the next section [of episodes] and immediately feel like, ‘Oh, this is a different kind of story.’ So we’re excited about that,” Whedon shared.
Nevertheless, there’s always the chance that both the Ghost Rider and LMD story arcs will come full circle before the season is over.
