Ridley Scott Inadvertently Discloses Future Plans For Alien: Awakening

Academy Award-winning Thelma & Louise director Ridley Scott let the cat out of the bag and revealed that he is considering naming the next Alien movie Alien: Awakening.

Scott accidently broke the news during an interview after a screening of the original Alien film at the South by Southwest festival. Asked about the in-universe chronology of the new set of movies he is making for the series, the director named Prometheus before mentioning another, as of now unreleased film called Awakening and then Covenant. One of the stars of the latter film, Katherine Waterston, seemed to realize what he had done and warned him that he had given away too much, but to little avail.

Of course, those who have been following developments regarding the classic science fiction franchise know that Scott has drawn up plans for more Alien movies after Covenant, meaning the news isn’t as shocking as it may otherwise have been.

CBR.com, the source of this story, notes that Awakening appears to take place between Prometheus and Covenant:

What happens in that gap certainly seems to be important to “Covenant’s” plot. In the same interview, Scott was pressed on how much the new film will feature Noomi Rapace’s character, Elizabeth Shaw. Shaw was last seen at the end of “Prometheus” setting out with Michael Fassbender’s mangled David on a quest to find the Engineers’ home world.
