ALONE TOGETHER: Lonely Island Series Picked Up [Freeform]

Alone Together Pilot To Be Developed Into Series

Freeform has obtained the rights to develop the pilot for Alone Together into a full-fledged television comedy.

The single-camera pilot stars Esther Povitsky and Benji Aflalo. Povitsky is known for her work on Lady Dynamite while the latter has appeared in Not Safe With Nikki Glaser. Serving as executive producers on the series are Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, a group that is better known as the popular musical and comedy group The Lonely Island:

Alone Together centers on Esther (Povitsky) and Benji (Aflalo), platonic best friends who want nothing more than to be accepted by the vain and status-obsessed culture. Despite their sometimes contentious relationship, when push comes to shove, they’ve got each other’s back…and they have nobody else to hang out with.

“We are so proud of this series as it perfectly embodies the evolving Freeform brand and our dedication to programming for the 20-something viewer,” said Freeform EVP programming Karey Burke. “Our audience will quickly fall in love as we did with real-life best friends Esther and Benji, who navigate a world of perfect 10s as self-proclaimed 6s.”

Alone Together underlines Freeform’s commitment to single-camera comedy. The network shifted its focus last year though it is still looking for its first single-camera series that will stick.
