Andy Whitfield, the main star of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lympoma, a form of Cancer. Whitfield’s cancer was detected early and he began treatment for it immediately in New Zealand. “As a result, production on the second season of Spartacus — which was scheduled to get underway later this month — has been delayed.” Whitfield said in a released statement: “I’m receiving excellent care, and am feeling strong, positive and determined with an army of support behind me”. This is bittersweet news to Starz as Spartacus: Blood and Sand was one of their most highly rated shows, and actually got better as the series progressed. “Staff writer Maurissa Tancharoe went on Twitter to assure fans that the series would not be ending as a result of Whitfield’s diagnosis. ‘The second season is still happening,’ she wrote. ‘However, it is on hold at the moment due to star Andy Whitfield‘s health problems.’ Starz president, Chris Albrecht, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy. His health, of course, is our primary concern. He has our complete support during this difficult time.” Whitfield has a large fan base because of Spartacus: Blood and Sand and I bet everyone is wishing him well in his battle and so are we.
