James Cameron Reveals Avatar 2 Release Date Has Been Pushed Back

Academy Award-winning Titanic director James Cameron says that Avatar 2 will not be completed in time for its original 2018 premiere.

The news will undoubtedly come as a disappointment to fans of the first movie. Released in 2009, it’s been almost ten years since viewers have seen anything pertaining to Avatar on the big screen. As if to add salt to the wound, it was previously stated that the long-awaited sequel would be finished in time for Christmas next year, a deadline that apparently will not be met.

However, Cameron made another big announcement that may very well offset the delay in the eyes of some. Not only is the director committed to working on a direct follow-up to the first movie, but he is also slated to make Avatar 3, 4, and 5 at some point in the future.

Superherohype, the source of this story, quotes the director as follows:

“Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven’t announced a firm release date. What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So we’re not making Avatar 2. We’re making Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam. (Laughs) So I know where I’m going to be for the next eight years of my life. It’s not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it.
