BATMAN: Ben Affleck Says Solo Film Will Tell ‘Original Story’

Ben Affleck reveals that his solo Batman film will tell an original story. The Academy Award-winning Argo producer and Good Will Hunting actor plans to take the DC franchise in a different direction.

Coming in the wake of the critically-reviled but financially-successful Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, a Batman movie will not only have to make sure it pleases critics and audiences but also turn as healthy a profit for Warner Bros. as it’s predecessor did. Against this intimidating backdrop, Affleck has opted to do something different with the production: whereas previous Batman films hewed closely to the comics’ themes and general narrative style, he wants to deviate from the source material and create a novel story featuring the Dark Knight. Affleck clarifies, however, that he will not hesitate to borrow “great things” from the comics:

“I think what I would do, what I probably would do, is in some ways what Zack did with this movie, which is to borrow certain things from the great comic books, but create an original story around it because I wouldn’t want the fans to already know the story and be familiar, but I would borrow, steal, great things that have been done before in the comics.”

Of course, this doesn’t rule out elements from “Red Hood” or other stories making their way into the film; Batman V Superman pulled several elements from notable comics, including The Death Of Superman and The Dark Knight Returns.
