BATMAN V SUPERMAN (2016): Jeremy Irons Talks About Playing Alfred

Jeremy Irons

Jeremy Irons Chats About Being Alfred in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We have seen many versions of Batman’s trusted butler/guardian Alfred Pennyworth on film and TV. Jeremy Irons joins a long list of actors playing Alfred when he plays him in the upcoming Batman v Superman.

The Hollywood Reporter recently spoke with Jeremy Irons while the actor received his career tribute at the Marrakech International Film Festival. The Academy Award-winning actor told the medium that this version of Alfred will be quite different and will be more hands-on. “He is quite a different Alfred than we have seen so far,” said Irons. “Zack Snyder had very clear views about what he wanted. I would just say he’s more hands-on perhaps than just a butler.”

So will we be seeing Alfred doing some action with Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne? This would certainly be a change to other versions of Alfred, who were played by Michael Gough and Michael Caine. Perhaps he may be similar to Sean Pertwee’s version in Gotham.

Irons does admit that Alfred won’t have “a large role” in the film since there’s so many Justice League members getting screen time, but he did speculate that working on a huge film was no “different than Die Hard,” referring to his villainous role in 1995’s Die Hard With a Vengeance.
