THE BIRTH OF A NATION (2016) Movie Trailer 2: Nate Parker Starts a Revolt

Nate Parker The Birth of a Nation

The Birth of a Nation Trailer 2

The second movie trailer for The Birth of a Nation (2016) has been released for the Nate Parker directed film. This trailer is far less gloomy and stark than the first trailer for this film. This trailer is optimistic and hopeful with uplifting music in the background. I believe this was done to show both sides of the film: the harsh reality of slavery during that time period and the struggle for a future without that institution. For more on the film’s numerous facets, please read our full review on the film from the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

The Birth of a Nation also stars Armie Hammer, Mark Boone Jr., Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis, Dwight Henry, Aja Naomi King, Esther Scott, Roger Guenveur Smith, Gabrielle Union, Penelope Ann Miller, and Jackie Earle Haley.

The Birth of a Nation‘s plot synopsis: “Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates and uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.”
