The CW Casts Cress Willians as Black Lightning

The CW has finally found its lead for Black Lightning as Cress Williams has been cast in the titular role of the network’s new series. Williams has signed on to bring the DC Comics superhero to life, as he will be joined by the likes of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.

The Hollywood Reporter released news of the announcement that Cress Williams will be playing the former superhero that comes out of retirement. In the series, Cress plays Jefferson Pierce, a retired vigilante who must suit up once again when one of his daughters join a criminal gang. Cress is no stranger to working on The CW two years ago when he appeared as a series regular on Hart of Dixie. The actor also happens to have some DC TV experience, having played the role of Baron Sunday in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in the past.

Black Lightning will be written and produced by husband-wife team Salim and Mara Brock Akil. Greg Berlanti will also be involved with the development of the series as a producer like his other shows on the network. Fox first started developing the drama before moving over to The CW. No premiere date has been given as of yet. With the actor having more than 20 years experience in the industry, we should expect to see him in a role that may stand out from the rest of the Arrowverse.
