Deadline shared some news that Berlanti is teaming up with Being Mary Jane creators Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil to develop a drama series based on DC character Black Lightning. This would be the first partnership between both Berlanti and Akil Productions as they work on the series for Warner Bros. Television. The potential series would follow Jefferson Pierce AKA Black Lightning, a retired vigilante who ends up returning to his superhero role thanks to his justice-hungry daughter and a former student who’s now part of a gang. The series is currently being shopped to other networks as we speak.

Black Lightning made his comic book debut in 1977 and has since made appearances in animated shows like Young Justice. What do you think of a Black Lightning TV series?
