Chadwick Boseman confirms Black Panther will feature Wakanda. The director said fans will get a look at the title character’s homeland when the movie comes out in 2018.
Since the first mention of Wakanda in last year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, audiences have been anticipating the fictional country’s debut on the big screen. The presence of Black Panther in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War has led some to believe that the nation will appear in the movie. According to Boseman however, this is not the case.
Talking in an interview with Nerdist, the director said he knew people thought Wakanda would play a role in Civil War, but flatly stated that “it’s not happening.” He did, however, explain that the film would serve as a way to introduce Black Panther to viewers and establish the characters’s role in the wider Marvel universe before his own film hits theaters:
Unwilling to say too much about how much of an impact Captain America: Civil War will have on Black Panther, Boseman did go on to tease what’s to come for T’Challa after his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. “You’re seeing him in the larger scheme of things, like fighting outside of his country. It will definitely affect what you see later. That’s all I can say.” Unfortunately, we have quite some time to wait before getting to find out what that affect will be, especially as the character’s solo movie won’t hit for another two years!
