Starz announces that Black Sails will end after its fourth season. The Treasure Island prequel series will conclude after its upcoming 10-episode fourth season finishes next year.
Telling the story of Toby Stephens‘ Captain Flint, Black Sails made history as the first Starz property to extend beyond three seasons, beating out previous record-holders Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Da Vinci’s Demons. However, the distinction of longest-running Starz show will soon go to Power, which already has fourth and fifth seasons in the works.
In any case, Black Sails has made a name for itself as one of the best-performing Starz programs, averaging 3.6 million viewers across multiple platforms per episode and earning multiple Emmy Award nominations:

Steinberg. “While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island. We’d like to thank Chris, Carmi and everyone at Starz for all their faith and support, and to our astounding cast and crew for joining us on this ride.”
Said Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik: “Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine, along with their crew and the phenomenal cast, have delivered a spectacular take on the most legendary pirate story in literature, and this final season will bring us to the shores of Treasure Island as was always intended.
