Blockers plot summary from Imdb:
Three parents try to stop their daughters from having sex on Prom night.
As far as selling its premise goes, the second promo for Blockers doesn’t have to try very hard. The idea of parents learning that their child intends to have sex at prom and subsequently trying to stop them is one rife with humorous potential, and leaves one wondering why it hasn’t been mined for comedy as much as you’d think it would have.
However, it is the execution where I start to have doubts. Namely, the casting of John Cena as the girl’s father. Cena isn’t a bad actor per se, but I have yet to see him in anything that indicates that he can carry a film on his own, much less a comedy. One can’t help but wonder why the producers decided that they were okay with him, as the film’s most bankable name, being the face of it.
Not only that, but a lot of the gags in the trailer fall flat or don’t go as far as they could, such as the exchange of euphemisms between a boy and girl at the prom.
