Blu-Ray DVD Player Prices on the Rise

I saw this coming. With the High-Definition DVD War now over, Blu-Ray DVD players now have no competition, which means manufactures can sell Blu-Ray DVD players for any price they chose. Currently, Sony, Sharp and Samsung Blu-Ray DVD players are the highest they have been all year. Before HD-DVD died (or was killed rather), Blu-Ray DVD players were coming down in price to compete with HD-DVD and to hasten its downfall. Since that is said and done now, the average price for a stand-alone Blu-Ray DVD player has gone up to around $400. It seems that even though it is the winner, Blu-Ray has still found a way to shoot itself in the foot.

Some consumers have chosen the Playstation 3 (PS3) route, with it’s built in Blu-Ray player and free firmware upgrades. In fact, the majority of early Blu-Ray titles were purchased by PS3 owners. For a purest like myself, I want the best performance quality, black levels, et cetera possible and that usually only comes from a stand-alone player.
