The Bottom Line: April 28, 2016: Time Is A Flat CIRCLE

Emma Watson The Circle 03

The Bottom Line: April 28th, 2017

Quick Takes – Will Tom Hanks and Emma Watson shoot The Circle to the top of the box office? Find out in this week’s edition of The Bottom Line!

Box Office Top Five

The Fate of the Furious  maintained its number one spot with $38.5 million, while The Boss Baby stayed in second with $12.8 million. Beauty and the Beast landed in third with $9.7 million, while Going in Style moved up to fourth with $5 million. Smurfs: The Lost Village rounded out the top five with $4.9 million.

Here is a look at a few films that are opening on April 28th.

The Circle (PG-13) 110 mins.

Despite a stellar cast, a topical premise, and an acclaimed director on board, The Circle is getting reamed by critics. The movie sounds like a disaster, and not even a fun one. That’s a bummer, and I think bad word-of-mouth is going to hurt the film’s box office. It might do ok in its first weekend thanks to the star power of Hanks and Watson, but I don’t see general audiences going much for this. Because it doesn’t have a ton of competition, I’m predicting it opens at number two, but it will fall quickly from there.

The Bottom Line

The Fate of the Furious will keep its number one spot, while The Circle will open at number two. The Boss Baby will drop to number three, while Beauty and the Beast takes fourth. Going in Style will round out the top five.
