The Bottom Line: April 7, 2016: No More Smurfing Around

Smurfs The Lost Village 02

The Bottom Line: April 7th, 2017

Quick Takes – There’s only one wide release this weekend, and its characters are only three apples tall. See if Smurfs: The Lost Village will win the weekend in this week’s edition of The Bottom Line!

Box Office Top Five

The Boss Baby topped the box office last week with a very solid $50.2 million debut. Beauty and the Beast dropped to second with $45.5 million. Ghost in the Shell underperformed by opening in third place with $18.7 million, while Power Rangers took fourth with $14.3 million. Kong: Skull Island rounded out the top five with $8.6 million.

Here is a look at a few films that are opening on April 7th.

Smurfs: The Lost Village (PG) 97 mins.

Hey, if you like the Smurfs franchise, then do I have a movie for you. After the last two live-action/animated efforts, Smurfs: The Lost Village goes full animation this time around. It has a new voice cast which includes Demi Lovato, Jack McBrayer, Danny Pudi and more. I would imagine this movie will do alright business. I’m sure there are families who will see this with their kids. But with stiff competition against The Boss Baby and Beauty and the Beast? We’ll see how it goes, but I’m predicting it opens at number two.

The Bottom Line

Beauty and the Beast will head back to the number one spot, while Smurfs will open at number two. The families who can’t get into those will see The Boss Baby, making it number three. Power Rangers will remain in fourth place while Ghost in the Shell drops to number five.

Movies To Look Forward To:

The Fate of the Furious (April 14th)
