The Bottom Line: December 2nd, 2016: Can INCARNATE Win The Weekend?

Aaron Eckhart Incarnate

Quick Takes

It’s a quiet week at the box office with only one wide-release film hitting theaters this Friday. Can Incarnate end up a surprise hit? Find out in this week’s edition of The Bottom Line!

Box Office Top Five

Disney’s Moana dominated the charts, opening at number one with $56.7 million (and probably securing Lin-Manuel Miranda an EGOT). The Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them dropped to second with $45.w million. Marvel’s Doctor Strange held steady in third place with $13.8 million. Robert Zemeckis’ Allied opened to fourth place with $12.8 million, and Arrival rounded out the top five with $11.5 million.

Here is a look at a few films that are opening on December 2nd.

Incarnate (PG-13) 91 mins.

The only wide release this weekend also looks to be pretty underwhelming. Incarnate, directed by San Andreas‘ Brad Peyton, is a new horror film starring Aaron Eckhart, Carice van Houten and David Mazouz. The film looks to be about the same as any of the other thousand Exorcist ripoffs, and I don’t think there’s much audience interest in this. I’d use the weekend to go catch up on some movies you haven’t had the chance to see yet. ArrivalHacksaw RidgeMoonlightMoanaAllied, and so many others are all worth your time and, in most cases, playing in a theater near you.

 The Bottom Line

Moana will remain box office champ for another week. I’m thinking everything will be pretty much the same as last week, with Fantastic BeastsDoctor StrangeAllied, and Arrival all making the top five again.
