The Bottom Line: February 10, 2016: Lego Batman v. John Wick: Dawn Of Awesome

Keanu Reeves John Wick Chapter 2

The Bottom Line: February 17th, 2016

Quick Takes – Yeah, we’re thinking he’s back. John Wick faces off against Lego Batman this week while Fifty Shades Darker competes for third. See how they will do in this week’s edition of The Bottom Line!

Box Office Top Five

Split stayed on top for the third week in a row with $14.5 million. Rings opened in second with $13.1 million while A Dog’s Purpose dropped to third with $10.6 million. Hidden Figures dropped to fourth with $10.2 million. La La Land rounded out the top five with $7.4 million.

Here is a look at a few films that are opening on February 10th.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (R) 122 mins.

The sequel to one of the best action movies of the past few years is out this weekend and reviews indicate it might even be better than the original. Keanu Reeves is thinking he’s back in John Wick: Chapter Two, kicking ass, taking names, and shooting bullets. My guess is this opens at number two, only because it faces some stiff competition from a miniature superhero.

The Lego Batman Movie (PG) 90 mins.

The caped crusader is back in minifig form for this spinoff to 2014’s The Lego Movie. It sounds like the decision to center a movie around the breakout character from that film was a smart one. Of course, it helps when that character is Batman. The Lego Batman Movie looks like a better Batman movie than the one we got last year, and reviews indicate it’s another home run for the Lego franchise. Expect this to open at number one, and maybe even stay there for the next couple of weeks.

Fifty Shades Darker (R) 115 mins.

And then there’s Fifty Shades Darker, the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey. It feels like the Fifty Shades moment has passed, but this is the only movie opening up for couples on Valentine’s Day weekend, so I predict it opens at number three.

The Bottom Line

The Lego Batman Movie will dominate at number one, while John Wick takes second. Fifty Shades Darker will open in third, moving Split down to number four. Hidden Figures will round out the top five.
