Box Office December 14-16, 2012. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey premiered in the Number One Spot at the box office over the weekend with $84.7 Million. Rise of the Guardians was Second with $7.4 Million. Lincoln was Third with $7.2 Million for $107.8 Million so far. Skyfall was Fourth with $7 Million for $272.3 Million so far. Life of Pi was Fifth for the fourth weekend in a row with $5.4 Million. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2Wreck-It Ralph, Playing for Keeps, Red Dawn, and Silver Linings Playbook rounded out the top ten respectively.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a 2012 epic fantasy film directed by Peter Jackson. It is the first of a three-part film adaptation of the 1937 novel The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, to be followed by The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again, due for theatrical release in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Set in Middle-earth sixty years before The Lord of the Rings, the story tells of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who is hired by the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to accompany thirteen dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on a quest across Middle-earth to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug the dragon.
