Box Office: December 30-January 1, 2017
New Years week was pretty lean with no major new movies opening over the weekend. That meant that a hold-over took place. The placement of the films from last weekend were almost identical to this weekend. Most films only slipped down one spot. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Moana have continued to perform well for Disney. Weak competition from their competitors over the last few weekends has contributed to their bottom line.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was Number One at the box office for the third week in a row with $49.5 Million for $424.9 Million so far. World-wide, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has brought in $789.7 Million. Sing was Second with $42.8 Million for $166.4 Million so far. Passengers was Third with $16.1 Million. Moana was Fourth with $10.9 Million for $210 Million so far.World-wide, Moana has brought in $402.4 Million. Why Him? was Fifth with $10.6 Million. Fences, La La Land, Assassin’s Creed, Manchester by the Sea, and Collateral Beauty rounded out the top ten respectively.
Next week sees the release of Underworld: Blood Wars and I, Daniel Blake plus the expansion of Hidden Figures and A Monster Calls.
