Box Office: February 3-5, 2012: CHRONICLE, THE WOMAN IN BLACK

Teens with powers captivated. Chronicle premiered in the Number One spot at the box office this weekend with $22 Million. The Woman in Black premiered in Second Place with $21 Million. The Grey was Third with $9.5 Million. Big Miracle premiered in Fourth Place with $8.5 Million. Underworld: Awakening was Fifth with $5.6 Million. One For the Money, Red Tails, The Descendants, Man on a Ledge, and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close rounded out the top ten respectively.

Chronicle is a 2012 science fiction film directed by Josh Trank and written by Max Landis based on a story by both Trank and Landis. It stars Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan, and Alex Russell as a group of Seattle friends who gain powerful superhuman abilities and use them for mischief and personal gain until one of them begins to use his powers for darker purposes.

The Woman in Black is a 2012 horror-thriller film directed by James Watkins and written by Jane Goldman, and is based on Susan Hill’s novel of the same name. It is produced by Hammer Film Productions. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe, Ciarán Hinds, Janet McTeer, Sophie Stuckey, and Liz White.

Big Miracle is a family drama film starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski. The film, directed by Ken Kwapis, is based on the 1989 book Freeing the Whales by Tom Rose, which covers Operation Breakthrough, the 1988 international effort to rescue gray whales trapped in ice near Point Barrow, Alaska.
