This was a lean weekend at the movies. None of the films cracked the $20 Million mark. Semi-Pro, the number one movie this weekend, which I thought was destined for the low-to-mid $20 Million range, did not even make it to $16 Million. I was not running out to see the ordinary looking Semi-Pro and it seems others were not either. The number two film this weekend, Vantage Point, was last week’s number one and brought in $13 Million, down 43.2% of its audience from last weekend. The Spiderwick Chronicles was number three with $8.75 Million, down 33.2%. The second major release of this weekend, The Other Boleyn Girl, opened in fourth place with $8.3 Million, a disappointing beginning to a highly promoted period piece film. Jumper was number 5 with $7.6 Million, down 40.2% of its audience from last week. Step Up 2: the Streets, Fool’s Gold, Penelope (opening this week with $4 Million). No Country for Old Men gained 66.6% more audience than last week, no doubt spurred by its Oscar win for Best Picture and Best Director. And Juno, after 13 weeks of release, is still in the top ten spot light with $3.35 Million this week for a total of $135.1 Million.
