Box Office: May 6-8, 2011: THOR, FAST FIVE, SOMETHING BORROWED

The hammer struck soundly. Thor premiered in Number One spot at the box office with $66 Million. Fast Five was Second with $32.5 Million for $139.8 Million so far. Jumping the Broom premiered in Third Place with $13.7 Million. Something Borrowed premiered in Fourth Place with $13.1 Million. Rio was Fifth with $8.2 Million for $114.9 Million so far. Water for Elephants, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family, Prom, Soul Surfer, and Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil rounded out the top ten respectively.

Matthew Vaughn was to direct the film in late 2008 for a release in 2010. Branagh replaced Vaughn in late 2008, and the film’s release was rescheduled into 2011. The main characters were cast in 2009, and principal photography took place from January to May 2010.

Jumping the Broom is a 2011 American comedy film directed by Salim Akil and produced by Tracey E. Edmonds, Elizabeth Hunter, T.D. Jakes, Glendon Palmer, and Curtis Wallace. The film stars Laz Alonso, Paula Patton, Tasha Smith, Loretta Devine, and Megan Good. The title of the film is derived from the African American tradition of bride and groom jumping over a ceremonial broom after being married. TriStar Pictures distributed the film in the United States on May 6, 2011.

Something Borrowed is a 2011 American romantic comedy film based on Emily Giffin’s book of the same name, directed by Luke Greenfield, and starring Ginnifer Goodwin, Kate Hudson, John Krasinski, Colin Egglesfield, and Steve Howey. It will be distributed in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures and in India by PVR Pictures.
