Bill Condon In Running To Serve As Director Of Bride Of Frankenstein
Academy Award-winning Gods and Monsters director Bill Condon is being eyed to helm Universal Pictures‘ planned remake of Bride of Frankenstein.
Those who saw Gods will recognize the significance of Condon being in the running for the upcoming Monsterverse installment. Starring Ian McKellen, the 1998 drama told the story of James Whale, the director of Frankenstein as well as the original Bride who made little secret of his homosexuality at a time when society was much less accepting of it. More recently, he directed both parts of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and Disney‘s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.
It is unknown when Bride will hit theaters, but Universal has set aside two dates for release of as-of-now unidentified projects presumably tied to the studio’s Monsterverse.

Bride of Frankenstein is part of a planned cinematic universe that kicks off with Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy on June 9. The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Van Helsing and Creature From the Black Lagoon are among the other features in various stages of development. Release date placeholders have been set, meanwhile, for April 13, 2018 and for February 15, 2019.
“I’m not going to sit here and pretend I can tell you exactly how they’re all going to come together,” Kurtzman told CS late last year.
