Sony Pictures Acquires Worldwide Rights To Brigsby Bear
Sony Pictures announces that it has picked up the international rights to 3311 Productions’ film and Sundance Film Festival contender Brigsby Bear.
Making its premiere at the festival just last week, the comedy tells the story of James, the sole fan of a children’s TV show aptly named Brigsby Bear. Unfortunately for him, the program is suddenly canceled and the story is left up in the air, leading James to set out and try to finish it himself. Members of the cast include Kyle Mooney, who plays James, Claire Danes, Mark Hamill, Greg Kinnear, and Michaela Watkins.
The film was produced by 3311 in conjunction with YL Pictures as well as Lord Miller, who previously worked on The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street. Additionally, members of the musical comedy group The Lonely Island were involved as well.
Comingsoon.net quotes the film’s director Dave McCary as saying the following:
“This is a special film made by old and new friends, but today we’re excited to announce that Sony Pictures Classics have become our actual best friends. All of our old best friends have been demoted to regular friends. They are fine, but they never bought movies from us like our new best friends do (sorry Tyler and Adam). To our best friends at SPC, thank you for your incredible enthusiasm and connection to this story.
