CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (2016): Baron Zemo Won’t Have Mask in Film

Daniel Bruhl Baron Zemo

No Mask for Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War. Marvel has been on point when it comes to translating their heroes and villains from page to screen, but sometimes they would go with a realistic approach. The latest one is Daniel Bruhl’s Baron Zemo getting an updated look.

A lot of the upcoming film’s focus has been on Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) butting heads, so it’s easy to forget that Baron Zemo will actually be more of the main villain. Daniel Bruhl gave some insight on his upcoming role as the German baddie, however he revealed that some aspects of the villain from the comics would be changed on screen.

“He does not wear the mask,” he told Business Insider, saying that his take on the character will be “different than what you’d think” and is “loosely connected” to the Zemo that fans know from the comics. “That’s what I like about the Marvel guys,” he confessed, “Some of the characters and things they’re dealing with always reference to current events so my character is from a different area than you would think.”

With Zemo’s Nazi background, it would be ideal that Marvel is looking to give the villain a modern look, but this may upset fans that he won’t be wearing the iconic mask. Despite Zemo not looking like his comic book counterpart, fans should hold out some hope for Bruhl to return as the character in future films. “There’s a possibility,” said the actor. “That’s the way it’s written.”

What do you guys think of these changes to Baron Zemo? Are you upset that he won’t be wearing the mask in the movie?
