Martin Freeman Talks About His Role for Captain America: Civil War. The Hobbit star Martin Freeman is about to make his MCU debut in this week’s big release Captain America: Civil War, which has been mysteriously tight-locked until just recently.
The Sherlock actor will be playing Everett Ross, a U.S. official who will act as a diplomat for T’Challa/Black Panther’s (Chadwick Boseman) home country of Wakanda. In the movie, he will be involved with the manhunt for Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and the Sokovia Accords. At the Graham Norton Show (via Metro UK), Martin Freeman said that his small role in the film will have a much larger impact in the MCU in the near future. “I think my character will develop a bit more as I enter the Marvel world a bit more which seems to be happening.”
Based on what he’s said here, it looks like Freeman may know about the direction of where his character’s heading. If this is indeed following the comics, we may be seeing Ross in the upcoming Black Panther movie, which comes out on February 16, 2018. Perhaps the ending of Captain America: Civil War may give us a clue on what role Ross will have for the rest of the MCU.
The actor also joked about how small his role is in the upcoming film, talking about not sharing the same screen with Paul Rudd despite being in the same film as him. “Apparently [Paul and I] are in the same film but our paths didn’t cross, in fact my path didn’t cross with an awful lot of people in that film. I watched it for the first time today and I didn’t know anyone in it!”
