Anna Boden And Ryan Fleck Set To Helm Captain Marvel

Half Nelson-directing team Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have been selected to oversee production of the upcoming superhero film Captain Marvel.

After collaborating together on the 2006 Ryan Gosling vehicle, the couple directed and wrote Sugar, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, and Missippi Grind. The last film, which starred Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s Ben Mendelsohn, premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and earned critical acclaim. On the television front, Fleck has served as a director on the HBO series Looking.

The planned Marvel production will see Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige act as a producer and Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman as writers. Executive producers attached to the film include Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, and Stan Lee.

Per Superherohype, the source of this story:

In the regular Marvel Comics continuity, Carol Danvers made her first appearance in 1968’s “Marvel Super-Heroes” #13. A Security Chief in the US air force, Danvers would later be transformed  into the superhero Ms. Marvel following an explosion involving Kree technology. More recently, Danvers took on the identity of Captain Marvel after being “promoted” to the moniker of the former Kree superhero.

Setting the pair of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck as Captain Marvel directors makes a lot of sense given the studio’s success working with Joe and Anthony Russo.
