Carrie Fisher Has Died at the Age of 60
Actress, writer, producer, and screenwriter Carrie Fisher has died today (December 27, 2016) at the age of 60. It was widely reported that Carrie Fisher had suffered a heart attack while aboard an airplane on Friday, December 23, 2016. She was flying from London to Los Angeles when she went into cardiac arrest.
At 8:55 am today, Fisher passed away from complications from cardiac arrest. Carrie Fisher’s 24-year-old daughter, Billie Lourd, released a statement through family spokesman Simon Halls about her mother’s death:
It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.
Carrie Fisher was born on October 21, 1956 in Beverly Hills, California to singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds. Fisher landed the role that defined her career in 1977 when she secured the role of Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. She followed that film by appearing in two of its sequels and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
Fisher was the author of multiple novels and the screenplay for one that was turned into a film (Postcards from the Edge). She also had a “hand in films like Hook, Sister Act, and Lethal Weapon 3 as a legendary Hollywood script doctor.”
