CBS & The CW Fall 2017-2018 Primetime TV Show Schedules and Plot Synopses
The 2017 upfronts are currently underway for all of the major television networks in the United States. The CBS upfront occurred yesterday and The CW occurred today. Following those upfronts at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall in New York City, each TV network has released their Fall 2017 primetime and premiere TV Show schedule. We have CBS and The CW Fall 2017-2018 schedules and lineups for you in this article.
We also have the plot synopses of returning The CW TV series. It was strange move to release next seasons’ plot synopsis before all of this seasons’ finales have aired. The upfronts are used to sell advertising in advance of a season premiering so the plot synopses helped potential show advertisers see where certain shows were going.
The advance plot synopses for The CW are: The Flash: Season 4, Legends of Tomorrow: Season 3, Riverdale: Season 2, Supernatural: Season 12, Arrow: Season 6, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Season 3, Jane the Virgin: Season 4, The 100: Season 5, and The Originals: Season 4.
CBS is starting out its Fall 2017 season with some of its strongest television shows. Those shows include comedy series The Big Bang Theory and drama series Scorpion. The Big Bang Theory is starting out on Monday nights before moving to its new night on Thursday. CBS will also be premiering in Fall 2017 new TV series: 9JKL, Me, Myself, & I, Seal Team, Young Sheldon, S.W.A.T., and Wisdom of the Crowd.
The CW is keeping part of its schedule virtually the same as its 2016 Fall TV schedule. The CW is still beginning most of its week nights with comic book TV series. Riverdale is taking the lead of Wednesday night and Arrow has been moved to the secondary position on Thursday. Black Lightning and Life Sentence are both mid-season shows, joining The 100, iZombie, and The Originals.

On CBS Fall 2017 Schedule:
MONDAYS – Two new comedies will join a night that will roll out in several phases this fall, with THE BIG BANG THEORY once again opening the night while the Network broadcasts NFL THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.
On Sept. 25, YOUNG SHELDON will have a special Monday premiere at 8:30 PM following the season premiere of THE BIG BANG THEORY, and then move to its regular Thursday time period on Nov. 2. Television’s #1 new comedy KEVIN CAN WAIT will open the season at 9:00 PM, providing a strong launch pad for the new comedy ME, MYSELF & I, starring Bobby Moynihan, at 9:30 PM. SCORPION, Monday’s most watched scripted broadcast, returns at 10:00 PM to wrap up the night.
On Oct. 2, new family comedy 9JKL premieres at 8:30 PM, starring Mark Feuerstein, Linda Lavin and Elliott Gould, with THE BIG BANG THEORY providing the best comedy lead-in on television.
After NFL THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL ends, THE BIG BANG THEORY will move to its regular Thursday time period on Nov. 2. On Monday, Oct. 30, KEVIN CAN WAIT will shift to 8:00 PM to open the night, followed by 9JKL. Then, ME, MYSELF & I will move to its regular 9:00 PM time period, followed by the return of SUPERIOR DONUTS at 9:30 PM, starring Jermaine Fowler and Judd Hirsch.
TUESDAYS – Tuesday’s winning schedule remains intact. NCIS, television’s #1 drama for eight years, returns at 8:00 PM, followed by BULL, this season’s #1 new drama in viewers, at 9:00 PM. NCIS: NEW ORLEANS, which improved its time period +33% from last year, caps the night at 10:00 PM.
WEDNESDAYS – Two established hits bracket an exciting new drama. SURVIVOR once again anchors the night at 8:00 PM, where it continues to win in viewers and demographics, leading into the new military drama SEAL TEAM starring David Boreanaz at 9:00 PM. The hit drama CRIMINAL MINDS shifts to 10:00 PM to begin its 13th season.
THURSDAYS – NFL THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL kicks off on Sept. 28, giving CBS a strong promotional platform to launch the new season. The Network’s top-rated entertainment schedule returns Nov. 2 with THE BIG BANG THEORY in its regular 8:00 PM slot, providing a perfect lead-in for the new comedy YOUNG SHELDON at 8:30 PM. Next is time period winner MOM at 9:00 PM, followed by LIFE IN PIECES, a time period winner in adults 25-54 at 9:30 PM. At 10:00 PM, Shemar Moore returns to CBS in the new action-packed drama S.W.A.T.
FRIDAYS – The only night on television where every hour grew in viewers this season. CBS’ winning night begins with time period winner MACGYVER at 8:00 PM, followed by HAWAII FIVE-0, another time period winner. At 10:00 PM, BLUE BLOODS, Friday’s #1 program, caps the evening of top-rated dramas.
SATURDAYS – CBS’ Saturday lineup features CRIMETIME SATURDAY, encore broadcasts of the Network’s popular dramas at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM,followed bythe night’s #1 regularly scheduled program, 48 HOURS, at 10:00 PM.
SUNDAYS – The venerable 60 MINUTES returns at 7:00 PM, celebrating its 50th anniversary season. Television’s #1 news program for five decades will lead into the new drama WISDOM OF THE CROWD, starring Jeremy Piven, at 8:00 PM. Sunday’s #1 scripted broadcast, NCIS: LOS ANGELES, shifts to 9:00 PM, followed by MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday’s #2 scripted broadcast, at 10:00 PM to close out the weekend.

CBS has released the official plot synopses for its new TV series: Seal Team, SWAT, Wisdom of the Crowd, 9JLK, Me, Myself & I, Young Sheldon, Instinct, and By The Book. Each synopsis also includes the main cast, the production company and the producers behind the TV series.
Seal Team’s Plot Synopsis
SEAL TEAM stars David Boreanaz in a military drama that follows the professional and personal lives of the most elite unit of Navy SEALs as they train, plan and execute the most dangerous, high stakes missions our country can ask of them. Deployed on clandestine missions worldwide at a moment’s notice, and knowing the toll it takes on them and their families, this tight-knit SEAL team displays unwavering patriotism and fearless dedication, even in the face of overwhelming odds. Ben Cavell, Ed Redlich, Chris Chulack, Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly are executive producers for CBS Television Studios. Emmy Award winner Chulack directed the pilot.

Wisdom of the Crowd’s Plot Synopsis
WISDOM OF THE CROWD stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Jeremy Piven as a visionary tech innovator who creates a cutting-edge crowdsourcing app to solve his daughter’s murder, and revolutionizes crime solving in the process. Inspired by the notion that a million minds are better than one, Silicon Valley entrepreneur Jeffrey Tanner (Piven) develops “Sophe,” an online platform for publicly shared information, and recruits the original cop who searched for his daughter’s killer, Det. Tommy Cavanaugh (Richard T. Jones), to work with him. 9JKL’s Plot Synopsis
9JKL stars Mark Feuerstein in a family comedy inspired by his real life. Josh Roberts (Feuerstein) is a new divorcé and actor between projects who moves home to New York to regroup, living in an apartment sandwiched between his doting, meddlesome parents on one side and his competitive brother, sister-in-law and their new baby on the other. As Josh’s family literally comes at him from both sides, he realizes he desperately needs to establish some personal boundaries, because his loving family is always going to be right there for him. Young Sheldon Plot Synopsis

Instinct’s Plot Synopsis

Valor’s Plot Synopsis
An elite unit of U.S. Army helicopter pilots called the Shadow Raiders are sent on a top secret mission to Somalia, a mission that goes terribly awry. Only two members of the team return safely: Warrant Officer Nora Madani (Christina Ochoa), one of the unit’s first female helicopter pilots, and her commanding officer, Captain Leland Gallo (Matt Barr), while the whereabouts of their comrade Jimmy Kam (W. Tre Davis) are unknown. Now back in the U.S., Madani and Gallo are the only ones who know the truth about what really went wrong in Somalia. Nora’s boyfriend, First Lieutenant Ian Porter (Charlie Barnett), suspects she’s not telling him the full story, and Jess Kam (Corbin Reid), Jimmy’s wife and Nora’s friend, is frustrated and furious at being kept in the dark. Dynasty’s Plot Synopsis

Black Lightning’s Plot Synopsis
Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. Life Sentence’s Plot Synopsis
LIFE SENTENCE follows Stella (Lucy Hale), a girl who has spent the last eight years living like she was dying (because she was). Just like the “manic pixie dream girl” heroines in her favorite sappy cancer movies, Stella traveled the world, faced her darkest fears and found true love on a whirlwind trip to Paris. But when Stella finds out that her cancer has been cured, she is suddenly forced to face the long-term consequences of the “live in the moment” decisions she made, including marrying a total stranger. And if that’s not enough, she also finds out that her “perfect family” isn’t so perfect after all. Turns out, because she was dying, everyone in her life hid their problems from her. But, now that she’s well, all bets are off. Riverdale: Season 2 Plot Synopsis
The first season of RIVERDALE found our characters reeling from the tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom. For many who had seen their home as perfect, safe, and innocent, the investigation into Jason’s murder peeled back the layers of their hometown to reveal a place bubbling over with secrets, mysteries, and scandals. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), for instance, grew from a sweet, all-American kid into a young man acutely aware of the darker side of life—he broke his best friend’s heart, had a forbidden relationship with his music teacher, and grappled with whether he wanted to follow in his dad’s salt-of-the-earth footsteps. On the positive side, Archie repaired his friendship with Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), found some success as a musician—thanks in part to Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) and her band, the Pussycats—and found a new romantic interest in femme fatale Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes). If Jason Blossom’s murder revealed the slimy underbelly beneath Riverdale’s surface, as we enter Season Two, the shooting of Fred Andrews threatens to plunge the entire town into utter darkness. When last we left our intrepid and at least slightly nutty heroine, Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom), she was at her wedding, abandoned at the altar by her obsession, Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III). In that moment, Rebecca found herself in a cliffhanger. Literally, because she, like, almost flung herself off a cliff. Instead, she found an unexpected well of strength inside herself and finally stood up to her abandoning father, flanked by her fierce girl squad. Phew. It was QUITE the wedding. So, what’s a girl to do now? Why, get revenge of course. Because Josh Chan, love of her life? He’s crossed over to the dark side — ergo, he must die, unless of course he sees the error of his ways and realizes he and Rebecca are meant to be. But will he? It might be a bit tough to figure out, since he ran off the day of the wedding to be a priest. (Did we mention it was QUITE the wedding?) There’s also the matter of Rebecca’s friends and how far they will follow her attraction now that it’s turned possibly just a touch fatal. Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin), now in training to be a legal eagle, has to decide how far to walk the gangplank for her cookie, Rebecca. Meanwhile, Valencia (Gabrielle Ruiz) and Heather (Vella Lovell) will be facing giant obstacles and challenges in their personal lives. Hey, it’s not like anyone in West Covina ever gets to just be happy. It’s been quite a year (or three) for Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez). Although she got married, her husband Michael (Bret Dier) was shot on their wedding night! But luckily, he lived to tell the tale. And then, at long last… Jane had sex. That’s right, friends, she’s Jane The Virgin no more! And let me tell you, married life was everything she had hoped for… until the worst thing ever happened and Michael died from complications from his injury. I know. It was a heartbreaker. We pick our story up three years later and Jane’s life is certainly not what she planned. First of all, she’s a widow, like her Abuela (Ivonne Coll). But she’s also channeled that grief into a book about her love story with Michael… And guess what? It was being published! So that was good news! Oh, and also on the bright side – Jane’s parents – Xo (Andrea Navedo) and Ro (Jaime Camil) – finally found their way back to each other and got engaged. And speaking of finding their way back to each other, Jane and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) are now the closest of friends. And it’s a good thing, because remember their cute, snuggly son Mateo? Well, he’s now quite the handful – to put it mildly. And to make matters worse – Rafael’s other kids were frickin’ angels. Yup, that’s right, the twins he had with Petra were smart and well-behaved and pretty damn near perfect. Oh, and Petra (Yael Grobglas) was kicking butt professionally too. See, she’d transformed the sleek Marbella into a kids’ hotel. And business was booming until everyone’s (not) favorite employee Scott was found dead during the inaugural pirate treasure hunt! I know, OMG, right? And soon, Petra and her twin sister Anezka were both suspects! But you know who it actually was… ?
