Composer James Horner (TITANIC, BRAVEHEART) Dies in Plane Crash

James Horner Dead

Composer James Horner Dies in Plane Crash. James Horner died on Monday in a plane crash near Santa Barbara, California. In case there’s any doubt or urge to be skeptical here, his death was confirmed by his assistant Sylvia Patrycja. He was 61 years old.

In a public Facebook post, Patrycja states,

“We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent. He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Horner was piloting a small personal airplane into an area 60 miles north of Santa Barbara. The loss of James Horner is incredibly unexpected, as he has been a prolific genius for decades now, and we’ve probably taken him for granted all this time. The horns in his Titanic score, the absolutely beautiful, melancholy, awe-inspiring music he created for Braveheart – all of these things still echo in my mind, years later. He created some of the most beautiful music of all time, I’d argue, and his loss is not only personal for those around him in his private life, but a public one, for all of us who bought his music and closed our eyes at night while letting his creativity guide our thoughts into sleep.

James Horner will be missed. Rest in Peace.
