CONAN THE BARBARIAN: Amazon Developing Fantasy Series

Amazon Planning To Adapt Conan The Barbarian For TV

Amazon Studios is looking into making a TV series focusing on Conan the Barbarian.

Making his literary debut in 1932, the iconic hero faced off against deadly enemies and struggled to find his place in a fantastical forgotten world. The property was the brainchild of Robert E. Howard, a fantasy writer also known for his contributions to “Weird Tales” magazine as well as his friendship with fellow fringe fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft.

The character is primarily known, however, from his portrayal by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1982 film adaptation, simply titled Conan the Barbarian. The film proved to be very successful and spawned a sequel in the form of 1984’s Conan the Destroyer.

As the program is still in the early stages of development, it’s little surprise that no acts have been attached to the show as of yet.

Superherohype offers the following information about the proposed series’ crew:

Conan comes to us from Ryan Condal, co-creator of Colony, Miguel Sapochnik, who directed some of the most critically acclaimed episodes of Game of Thrones, including “Hardhome” and “Battle of the Bastards,” Warren Littlefield who executive produced Fargo and The Handmaid’s Tale, Pathfinder Media and Endeavor Content. Conan was created and written by Condal. He will executive produce with Sapochnik and Littlefield, with Sapochnik directing.
