J.K. Rowling’s Cormoran Strike Picked Up By HBO
HBO has optioned the rights to the BBC‘s Cormoran Strike for distribution in the United States and Canada.
Written under the pen name Robert Galbraith, the Cormoran Strike series of novels marks Rowling’s latest foray outside the realm of fantasy fiction. This doesn’t mean that she has left behind the world of whimsy for good: she is still set to serve as a screenwriter for the upcoming adaptations of her Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them books.
Set to be begin production this year, Cormoran Strike will debut on BBC One before being released in North America:
Debuting in 2013, the “Cormoran Strike” novels follow a Vietnam War veteran turned private detective who battles physical and psychological wounds as he tackles high-profile crimes with his assistant/partner Robin. Three months after the release of the first book, “The Cuckoo’s Calling,” was revealed as the author. She has since released two more installments, “The Silkworm” and “Career of Evil,” and is expected to publish a fourth next year.
According to Deadline, “Cormoran Strike” will air as a three-event series, which will include a three-hour version of “The Cuckoo’s Calling,” followed by two-hour adaptations of “The Silkworm” and “Career of Evil.”
Michael Keillor (“Line of Duty”) will direct “The Cuckoo’s Calling” from a script by Ben Richards (“The Tunnel”) who also adapted “The Silkworm.”
