DAMIEN (2016) TV Show Trailer: A&E Series is an OMEN Sequel

Bradley James Damien

Damien Trailer is not Just a Retread. A&E‘s Damien (2016) TV show trailer stars Omin AbtahiMegalyn EchikunwokeBarbara HersheyBradley James and David Meunier.  Damien‘s plot synopsis: “After discovering his origins, Damien Thorn must cope with life as the Anti-Christ.”

Since we first learned of The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazarra‘s plans to turn the 1976 horror classic The Omen into a television show, we were skeptical. Odds were it would be an expanded version of the Richard Donner-helmed original.  In fact, The Omen IV: The Awakening was just that: a TV movie that retold the first film with the gender of the child switched.

Now, the trailer for Damien suggests quite a different approach.  The show appears to be more of a sequel, covering the original film with brief flashbacks.  The Omen did have two theatrical sequels, focusing on a growing Damien accepting his fate.  Damien: Omen II focused on his preteen years in military school and The Omen IIIThe Final Conflict featured a young Sam Neill as Damien as he heads toward the oval office.

Based on the new trailer, Mazarra is taking an entirely different approach.

A&E has previously had success re-imagining horror classics with Bates Motel.

Damien also stars Juan Carlos VelisSara Garcia and Cody Ray Thompson.
