Lead, Showrunner, and Setting Selected for Daredevil. Netflix has cast the lead for the Daredevil TV series, its showrunner has been selected, and the show’s setting has been chosen. Charlie Cox has been cast as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Steven S. DeKnight has been selected as Daredevil‘s showrunner, and the series will have a modern day setting.

Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed actor Charlie Cox has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Best known for his acclaimed work in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Stardust,” Cox will play Matt Murdock, the lead role in this all-new Marvel Television series. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
Marvel’s first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight (“Spartacus,” “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel”) and Drew Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost,” “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer,” in addition to writing the first two episodes of “Marvel’s Daredevil), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Smallville,” “Heroes”).
“Marvel’s Daredevil” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios.
On Daredevil’s production:
Marvel’s Daredevil is expected to start shooting in New York City in the next few months with all the episodes hitting Netflix sometime in 2015. It’ll be followed by, in some order, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist before all four characters team up to become The Defenders, yet another Netflix series.
On Charlie Cox:
Cox played the role of Tristan Thorne in the 2007 film Stardust. He was next seen in the 2008 film Stone of Destiny in which he played Ian Hamilton. He made his West End debut in a double role of Harold Pinter’s The Lover and The Collection at the Comedy Theatre in London, and in the same year played the Duke of Crowborough in the pilot episode of the ITV drama series Downton Abbey. He also appeared in Kleist’s The Prince of Homburg, playing the title role, at the Donmar Warehouse in London in 2010. He played the part of St. Josemaría Escrivá in the 2011 Roland Joffé film There Be Dragons. Also in 2011, Cox signed on to play a recurring role in the second season of the Martin Scorsese-produced HBO original series Boardwalk Empire as an Irish immigrant with ties to the IRA. His character became a regular for the series’ third season, which began broadcast in September 2012.
