Details On New Daredevil Series Revealed. With the debut of the Netflix Daredevil series rapidly approaching, fans are growing increasingly ravenous for any bits of information that may reveal details about the show. Daredevil is currently being touted as, “the exact opposite” of the Ben Affleck film.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Steven S. DeKNight told the site that Netfilx’s Daredevil will be,

…a little grittier and edgier than Marvel has gone before,” but clarified, “we’re not looking to push it to extreme violence or gratuitous nudity.”

Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb had this to say about the tone of the series,

“there are no magic hammers flying around” or “people flying through the sky” in the series. “We’ve always approached this as a crime drama first, superhero show second.”

It seems like Marvel is taking the Daredevil series in a similar direction as the Christopher Nolan Batman films and the CW’s Arrow. Netflix knows that Daredevil fans will give the series a shot no matter what and instead is pandering to the uninitiated. By giving Daredevil the tone of a crime program first and comic book series second, Netflix is attempting to cast a net around a wider audience by attracting people who are turned off by seeing a grown man in a red leather suit and devil horns. Although Arrow initially began its run by being “grounded in reality”, as the series progressed it continued introducing more “comic-booky” elements until it made sense that the show could contain a full-fledged meta-human superhero such as The Flash. Should Daredevil ease into the Marvel superhero universe or should it fully embrace its comic-book roots right from the start?
