DEADPOOL (2016): Ed Skrein and Gina Carano Talk About Their Villainous Characters

Ed Skrein and Gina Carano Discuss Playing Villains in Deadpool. We had an early look at both villains Angel Dust and Ajax in the upcoming film Deadpool. Now the stars behind these characters, Gina Carano and Ed Skrein, open up about portraying this villainous duo on screen.

IGN spoke with Ed Skrein and Gina Carano about their roles in Deadpool, including a few details of how they get involved in the film’s plot involving Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson. “The program that we run is very similar to Weapon X, in that we take terminally-ill soldiers and we give them superpowers,” Skrein said. “Ajax and Angel Dust went through that process themselves and now we run the program and we’re the people that changed Wade Wilson into Deadpool.”

Carano also revealed that she and Skrein worked on their characters’ backstory together. “We decided Ajax kind of found her,” Carano claimed. “Angel Dust will only listen to Ajax. I’m like a horse rearing to go and he pretty much has the reins.” Skrein also adds that the status of their characters’ relationship was made to be deliberately ambiguous. “We really wanted people to not know whether we were Brother and Sister, lovers, whether it is a teacher-pupil situation almost like a pimp and prostitute situation, for want of a better word.”

Directed by Tim Miller, Deadpool is scheduled to open in theaters on February 12, 2016.
