DEADPOOL (2016): Fox Greenlights Sequel

Deadpool

20th Century Fox orders a sequel to Deadpool. The planned follow-up film will share many of the same cast and crew members as the first movie, including star Ryan Reynolds.

Alongside Reynolds, Deadpool‘s whole creative team, including director Tim Miller and screenwriters Rhett Rease and Paul Wernick have been tapped to return in similar capacities for the proposed sequel. It is not known if any members of the supporting cast will come back, and Fox has not offered an official release date for the currently unnamed project.

Given the unprecedented success of Deadpool, it was practically a given that the Merc with a Mouth would get another movie. In fact, the film has earned so much money at the box office that it now ranks as the most profitable installment in Fox’s X-Men film franchise:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Ryan Reynolds stars as the title character alongside T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat and Ed Skrein as Ajax. The film will also feature the mutant Colossus, voiced by Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic.
