The second movie trailer for Death Note (2017) by Netflix. The first teaser trailer for this film was an appetizer compared to this trailer. The viewer gets to know some of the secondary characters in Death Note and the film’s overarching theme with this trailer. The most interesting of those secondary characters was Ryuk (Willem Dafoe), a demon that appears and begins communicating with Light Turner (Nat Wolff) soon after Turner receives the Death Note notebook. Mia Sutton (Margaret Qualley) is one of the other secondary characters who gets a lot of screen during this trailer. It’s unclear if the two characters (Light and Mia) have an amorous relationship but what was clear is that they both become eager to use the Death Note notebook to rid their town and possibly the world of criminals.
The greatest new element in this trailer was the introduction of L (Keith Stanfield), a masked detective (how does a police detective get away with that?) that begins hunting the supposed killer of criminals around his city. Is he covering up his face and using a single letter for his name to protect himself from the Death Note notebook? If that is the reason, it is pretty clever.
Death Note‘s plot synopsis: based on Japanese horror manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, “Light Turner, a bright student who stumbles across a mystical notebook that has the power to kill any person whose name he writes in it. Light decides to launch a secret crusade to rid the streets of criminals. Soon, the student-turned-vigilante finds himself pursued by a famous detective known only by the alias L.”
Adam Wingard‘s Death Note (2017) also stars Lakeith Stanfield, Shea Whigham, Masi Oka, Michael Shamus Wiles, Matthew Kevin Anderson, Barbara Beall, Lia Lam, Christian Sloan, Jessica McLeod, Cole Vigue, Paul Nakauchi, and Paul Nakauchi.
