DEMENTIA (2015): IFC Midnight Acquires Indie-Horror

IFC Midnight Acquires Dementia

IFC Midnight Acquires Indie-Horror Dementia. Mike Testin‘s Dementia will be released in North America by IFC Midnight sometime this year. Dementia‘s plot synopsis: “After being diagnosed with Dementia, an elderly war veteran is forced by his estranged family to hire a live-in nurse, only to find she harbors a sinister secret.”

IFC Midnight is one of the great purveyors of our current theatrical horror environment. One need only look at the history of films they’ve chosen to support, such as Kill ListAnti-ChristByzantium, and Maniac, to respect the work they’ve done and their place in theatrical horror. I love going to their cinema in Manhattan to watch midnight movies with strangers and re-experience old classics on the big screen. Should you live in New York, regularly checking their programming is probably a good idea. I saw Alien and The Exorcist here – those are the kind of films they screen at  midnight.

Their latest acquisition, Dementia, is about an old veteran, suffering from the eponymous disease, hiring a live-in nurse, whom there is more to than it seems. This could be great – alongside IFC Midnight’s track record is a solid main lead. Gene Jones plays the old vet, and he most recently amazed us all in Ti West‘s The Sacrament (2013). He’ll undoubtedly bring that talent back to the table here, so the the only serious concern, as usual, regards the writing. This seems to be Meredith Berg‘s first feature-film credit as a writer, so I’m not sure what level of quality to expect. We’ll certainly keep you posted as this film moves on to an official release.
