Rob Letterman Hired to Direct Detective Pikachu
The first live-action Pokémon film Detective Pikachu has just found its director. Legendary Pictures has chosen Goosebumps director Rob Letterman to helm the upcoming film for the studio. It seems like things are really taking off to get this Pokémon film off the ground.
Deadline first broke the news that Rob Letterman would be adapting the upcoming video game Detective Pikachu for the big screen. It will be the first of hopefully many live-action movies based on this beloved franchise. Letterman has been known for kids’ films like Goosebumps, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Shark Tale. Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch have penned the screenplay for the film. Seeing that Detective Pikachu is a reasonably new character, it’s still a mystery as to what the plot will be or what characters will be used.
Universal Pictures will be taking over distribution for the live-action film outside of Japan as they have done in the past. Meanwhile, Toho will be handling distribution of the film in Japan. What do you guys think of Detective Pikachu being a live-action film?
